What is the EPC QR code standard?

The EPC QR code standard (EPC069-12) defined by the European Payments Council encodes SEPA Credit Transfer details in a QR code. It is supported by banking apps in Germany, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and other SEPA countries.

Can I use IBAN QR codes for non-SEPA currencies?

The EPC QR standard is designed for SEPA euro transfers. For non-SEPA IBANs the generator produces a plain IBAN QR code without the EPC payment header, which can still be scanned by apps that support IBAN QR lookup.

A GiroCode is the common name in Germany and Austria for an EPC QR code. It encodes a SEPA Credit Transfer following the EPC069-12 standard so a banking app can scan it and pre-fill the payment. This generator produces a GiroCode whenever you add a beneficiary name to a SEPA IBAN.

Can I add an amount and a payment reference?

Yes. For a SEPA IBAN you can add a beneficiary name (required for a payment QR), an amount in euro, and a payment reference of up to 140 characters. These are encoded into the EPC QR so the recipient's banking app pre-fills the whole transfer.

What Is an IBAN QR Code?

An IBAN QR code encodes a bank account number in a machine-readable format so that banking apps, payment terminals, and accounting software can scan it directly, eliminating manual entry errors.

For SEPA countries (the EU and associated states), this tool generates an EPC QR code following the European Payments Council standard. EPC QR vs Plain IBAN QR

Earlier the beneficiary field is empty, so the code stays a plain IBAN QR until you name a payee.
